Sell or Consign Your Watch

🕰️ Mainspring.DXB – Watch Buying & Consignment Policy

1. An Honest First Advice to Sellers

If you are not in a hurry, the best financial option is not to sell your watch to a reseller.

You will almost always get a higher price by:

  • Selling directly to another end user
  • Selling to a friend or collector
  • Selling it yourself on the private market

Why?
Because any professional dealer must buy below market price to cover costs and business risks.

We believe in being transparent about this from the start.

2. Who We Are (And Why Our Offers Are Lower)

Mainspring.DXB is a licensed professional company, not a private flipper.

We operate with:

  • Annual license fees
  • Rent for office, kiosk, and mall shop
  • Staff salaries
  • Marketing, logistics, storage
  • Servicing, refurbishment, warranty obligations
  • Inventory risk and capital lock-up
  • We are a tax eligible company

We also typically buy watches in bulk (lots of multiple watches at once ), not one-by-one like a private buyer.
This means our average sourcing cost must always be low to keep our sales prices as low as possible compared to the market, to keep our product variety as wide as possible and certainly to keep our business and premium services to our customers sustainable.

➡️ Therefore, any cash offer we make will be significantly below the final market selling price.
This is normal, professional, and unavoidable in the watch trade.

If this doesn’t suit you and you’re not in a rush, we will honestly advise you to sell privately instead.

3. Every Watch Has a Market Price (But It Must Be Verified)

Every watch—new, used, or vintage—has a second-hand market value.
This value depends on:

  • Brand & model
  • Condition
  • Originality
  • Box & papers / full set or missing items
  • Service history
  • Market demand

To determine this properly, we must inspect the watch.

4. Our Inspection Process (Mandatory)

Before any price offer, we perform:

  1. Physical inspection (case, dial, hands, bracelet, crown, serials, condition, originality)

  2. Movement inspection (for authenticity and mechanical condition, when applicable)

This process:

  • Takes time
  • Uses professional expertise
  • Carries responsibility and risk
  • Is required for authenticity verification

➡️ This is not a casual or free “quick look”.

5. Inspection Fee Policy

Because inspection is real professional work:

  • All watches submitted for sale are subject to an inspection fee
  • The inspection fee depends on:
  • Brand & model
  • Complexity
  • Approximate market value of the watch

Important:

  • The inspection fee is paid upfront
  • The inspection fee is non-refundable

The inspection fee covers:

  • Authentication work
  • Condition assessment
  • Market evaluation
  • Authenticity and condition feedback report with Mainspring`s authenticity certificate

💡You may choose to deduct the inspection fee from the final price if a deal is completed.

6. After Inspection: Your Options

Once inspection is completed, we will present you with:

Option A — Direct Purchase (Cash Offer)

  • We make a wholesale trade offer
  • This offer will be below market price
  • You are not obligated to accept
  • If you accept:

  • Payment is made via agreed method in 10 (ten) working days
  • Ownership is transferred
  • All payments and transactions will be done in a legal way and against a receipt.

Option B — Consignment Sale (Better Price, Slower)

If you don’t want to sell at a trade price:

  • You can leave the watch with us on consignment
  • We sell the watch on your behalf
  • The watch stays in our shop for an agreed period (e.g., 30 days or more)
  • You receive:
  • The net agreed sales price (we will specify the minimum amount to be paid to you on sales in the contract)
  • This usually results in a higher final payout than a direct sale

(We have a separate, clear consignment policy & contract. Please find it below)

7. Legal & Ownership Requirements

To sell or consign a watch, you must:

  • Be the legal owner
  • Provide valid ID
  • Confirm the watch is:
  • Not stolen
  • Not under dispute
  • Not under finance or insurance claim

We reserve the right to:

  • Refuse any watch or transaction
  • Hold or report items if required by law (fake watches will be hold and authorities will be informed)

8. Our Transparency Promise

We commit to:

  • Honest advice (even if it means telling you not to sell to us)
  • Professional inspection standards
  • Clear, market-based offers
  • No pressure to sell
  • Respect for your time and property

🕰️ Mainspring.DXB — Consignment Policy

A Smarter Way to Sell When You’re Not in a Rush.

If a direct trade price doesn’t suit you, consignment is our preferred alternative.

1) What Consignment Means at Mainspring.DXB

  • You leave your watch with us for an agreed period (e.g., 30 days or more)
  • We market and sell the watch on your behalf through our boutique and channels
  • When the watch is sold:
    • You receive the sale price minus our agreed commission

Consignment usually results in a higher final payout than a direct sale, in exchange for time and patience.

2) Inspection Still Applies

All consignment watches:

  • Must pass the same full authenticity and condition inspection
  • Are subject to the same inspection fee

This protects:

  • You
  • Mainspring.DXB
  • The final buyer

3) Pricing & Sale Period

  • The asking price is set together based on:

  • Market value
  • Condition and originality
  • Completeness (box, papers, accessories)
  • Demand and liquidity
  • The consignment period is defined in a written agreement

  • If the watch does not sell:

  • The price may be adjusted by mutual agreement, or
  • The watch can be returned to you

4) Commission & Payment

  • Mainspring.DXB earns an agreed commission from the final sale price
  • Once the watch is sold and any return/verification period is cleared:
    • You are paid your share via the agreed method

5) Care, Security & Presentation

While on consignment:

  • Your watch is handled and stored with professional care
  • It may be displayed in-store and marketed online
  • It remains your property until sold

6) Legal & Ownership

To consign a watch, you must:

  • Be the legal owner
  • Provide valid ID

Confirm the watch is:

  • Not stolen
  • Not under dispute
  • Not under finance or insurance claim
